The preacher has a desire and gift to preach and teach, in love, the word of God to al. The preacher's life should demonstrate to all a sincere faith in God, a strong commitment to His teachings and a desire to live faithfully. Under the oversight of the elders, those appointed by the elders, deacons or men of the congregation, the preacher will work toward and support the mission of the Central Church of Christ. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS • Seeks and values guidance from the elders and others • Prepare and deliver scriptural sermons, weekly, both Sunday morning and night with occasional input from the elders/leadership • Teach bible classes as assigned, both Sunday morning and/or Wednesday night • Prepare PowerPoint slides for Sunday morning service • Actively assist in other areas of the worship services where needed • Develop and lead outreach efforts; and lead the engagement of all members with these efforts-develop a method to track • Coordinate an active visitation program for the sick and shut-in; coordinate other modes of contact when visitation isn't possible • Provide spiritual guidance and/or counseling for members and others, ensuring all discussions are kept confidential • Coordinate weekly publication of church bulletin • Actively participate in regular meetings with elders and/or others to ensure goals and objectives are being met and ensuring open communication among all • Actively maintain church social media accounts; aid with website update/ maintenance Serve as main contact for visitors, contractors, service vendors or others requesting information about Central Church of Christ • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours four days per week at the building on a mutually agreed upon time schedule with the elders/leadership 1 The Central Church of Christ of Savannah • Other duties a s assigned MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION • Three or more years of experience in ministry work; full-time pulpit preacher experience preferred • Four-year degree from Christian University and/or School of Preaching is preferred. • Proficient knowledge of all scripture; ability to apply biblical principles/lessons to today's life • Communication - uses open, honest communication in all situations; ability to share ideas and thoughts clearly both written and verbally • Teamwork- works effectively with various groups and individuals; openly takes on tasks where work is needed; approaches tasks humbly • Planning/Organizing- establishes and consistently utilizes policies and procedures to reach objectives; ability to prioritize, schedule and plan-out courses of action and has the ability to follow through to completion; ability to plan and develop lesson and/or sermon topics • Learning/Development - strives to continue biblical education as well as personal growth • Work Standards - holds a high standard for his work; self-motivated; assumes responsibility for completing tasks and objectives PREACHING Topics and Areas of Emphasis i. The eldership/leadership and preacher will have open discussions regarding teaching, training and the needs of the congregation. The leadership will, on occasion, have special topics or areas that will require teaching from the pulpit. The following general guidelines will be used: 1. When the eldership requests special lessons, adequate time will be allowed for proper preparation. 2. When the eldership requests special lessons on sensitive subjects, the elders will explain the request and the reason to the congregation. Presentation i. The preacher is expected to always conduct himself with propriety and professional dignity in preaching and teaching. He is expected to be discreet. ii. Preaching and teaching are expected to help the church achieve the purposes set forth in Ephesians 4:11-13: “It was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the 2 The Central Church of Christ of Savannah knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” BIBLE CLASSES Same general guidelines as above. The preacher will be expected to teach class on Sunday morning and/or Sunday night and Wednesday night. PERSONAL WORK a. The preacher is to be actively involved in the visitation outreach of the congregation. He should be willing to join the leadership and congregation in: 1. Being ready to assist members with problems as opportunities are available. When this involves pastoral counseling, the preacher will direct the member to a health care professional should the need arise. 2. Visiting and supporting the bereaved and seriously ill. 3. Conduct personal bible studies where appropriate. b. The above items are not intended to be exclusive of the eldership's or the members' responsibilities in these areas. In general, the preacher will be expected to carry out these functions during the "working" day with the understanding that some events such as death and emergency surgery cannot be scheduled. c. While the primary responsibility of the preacher is to the local congregation, he is encouraged to become an active member of the community. ADMINISTRATIVE a. The church office will be the central point for the collection of congregational information and announcements. b. The deacon(s) has/have individual ministry responsibilities. It is the preacher's responsibility to work within this framework and to develop working relationships. He should provide reasonable support for the deacon(s) for each of these ministries. c. Should the preacher have an interest in a new project of ministry, he should obtain facts and cost figures before presenting it to the leadership. d. Office hours will be maintained as mutually agreed between the preacher and eldership/leadership. The presence of the preacher at the building is important during the scheduled times. GOSPEL MEETINGS, LECTURESHIPS, MISSION TRIPS, ETC. a. The preacher may conduct one gospel meeting per year with full salary being continued. The gospel meeting will need to be approved by the leadership. b. It will be expected that the preacher attends at least one religious conference or lectureship per year. The preacher will be reimbursed for reasonable expenses related to the conference/lectureship. The preacher may request to attend other conferences or lectureships. If approved by the eldership, the preacher will be reimbursed for reasonable expenses related to those as well. 3 The Central Church of Christ of Savannah COMMUNICATION a. Free and open communication between the leadership, preacher and deacon(s) regarding work, goals etc. of the congregation. The preacher will not make commitments for the eldership/deacon(s) prior to getting their approval nor will the eldership/ deacon(s) make commitments for the preacher without his prior approval. b. The leadership and preacher will meet regularly to insure a close working relationship. c. The preacher will have an annual review during December of each year.
