Our History
Frank McCormick and Roy Deaver discuss the need for a school of preaching. Although Brother McCormick does not live to see the establishment of the school, his hope underlies our work at Brown Trail School of Preaching.
Visionary leaders bring this dream to fruition. Men respond with zeal to the call, and the school of preaching becomes a reality. As a result of those early conversations with Brother McCormick, Roy Deaver steps forward and serves as director of the school for the next fourteen years.
Within a month, the school moves into its facilities in the present Brown Trail church building.
We graduate our very first class and establish a pattern that we’ve continued to the present.
Wendell Winkler is appointed director.
Eddie Whitten becomes director.
Maxie Boren begins directing the school.
Dave Miller takes over as director for a full decade.
Robert Stapleton becomes the director, serving in that capacity until his death.
Willie Alvarenga spearheads the formation of the BTSOP Spanish Department.
Kevin Rhodes takes the helm. The school implements more rigorous academic standards and shifts focus toward developing character and practical skillsets within preachers.
Today, we are still overseen by the Brown Trail Church of Christ eldership and led by Kevin Rhodes.
Only eternity will reveal all the good accomplished by the preachers trained at the Brown Trail School of Preaching!
